BillingTracker Support Moving BillingTracker Pro from one computer to another You may find that you need to move your copy of BillingTracker Pro from one computer to another, perhaps because you are upgrading to a new computer. There are a few simple steps to make the move successfully. Basically, you install a clean version of BillingTracker Pro on your new machine, and then copy the data file over from your old one. Here are the details: 1. All of your data (clients, projects, invoices, expenses, etc.) is contained in one file called billingtrackerpro3.mdb or billingtrackerpro4.mdb, depending on your version. 2. Find the billingtrackerpro3.mdb or billingtrackerpro4.mdb data file here: If you are using BillingTracker Pro version 4.2.5 or below (check the About screen for version number): Windows XP: For most users, this will be c:\program files\BillingTracker Pro WINDOWS 7: The data file will be in a weird location, and might be hidden. The location of this directory is: C:\Users\YourLoginName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BillingTracker Pro 4 Note that the AppData and following folders might be hidden. You need to go into Windows settings to un-hide these hidden folders (directories). If you are using BillingTracker Pro 4.3.0 and above: Single user version: C:\Documents and Settings\YourLoginName\My Documents\BillingTracker\BillingTracker Pro Multi-User Version (on the computer where you installed the Multi-User Server most likely): C:\Documents and Settings\YourLoginName\My Documents\BillingTracker\BillingTracker Multi-User Server 3. Copy the data file to a secure place on your new computer or onto a disk or USB drive. 4. Download the latest copy of BillingTracker Pro from our Web site to your new computer. 5. Install it. 6. You should now have BillingTracker Pro running on your new computer, with a blank data file. 7. Close BillingTracker Pro. 8. Find the directory where the new blank data file was installed: If you are using BillingTracker Pro version 4.2.5 or below (check the About screen for version number): Windows XP: For most users, this will be c:\program files\BillingTracker Pro WINDOWS 7: The data file will be in a weird location, and might be hidden. The location of this directory is: C:\Users\YourLoginName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BillingTracker Pro 4 Note that the AppData and following folders might be hidden. You need to go into Windows settings to un-hide these hidden folders (directories). If you are using BillingTracker Pro 4.3.0 and above: Single user version: C:\Documents and Settings\YourLoginName\My Documents\BillingTracker\BillingTracker Pro Multi-User Version (on the computer where you installed the Multi-User Server most likely): C:\Documents and Settings\YourLoginName\My Documents\BillingTracker\BillingTracker Multi-User Server 9. Copy/paste your old data file - the one you saved in step 3 above - into this directory (for Windows 7 users, copy it into both directories as mentioned above). You will overwrite the blank data file with your data file. 10. Run BillingTracker Pro. You should see your data, on your new computer. **Important Note** You cannot simply put a data file from version 3 into an installation of version 4. The data file needs to be imported. This is done automatically if you install BillingTracker Pro 4 onto a computer that has BillingTracker Pro 3. If you want to switch computers AND switch versions, you need to have us convert the data file for you. In many cases, upgrading from version 3 to version 4 requires the purchase of an upgrade license; contact us for details.
