Manage Time and Billing Software for Small Law Firm |
The ‘Manage Projects’ screen of BillingTracker Pro shows the important details of your clients’ projects.
First, choose the client in the drop-down menu beneath the icons. This will cause a list of projects for that client to be shown in the table. Each project has some critical information attached to it, which you can see at a glance.
First, of course, is the project name. Many users title the project by its description, like “rental contract" or “employment." The next column shows the billing type – are you billing this project at an hourly rate or a fixed fee?
BillingTracker Pro lets you bill hourly, fixed fee, contingency, recurring, or even “product" when you are selling goods and not time.
Recurring billing can be set to daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. The time and billing system will automatically prompt you to create an invoice at the end of each period. You can even define an expected number of hours that you will work during that time period and charge a different rate if you go above it.
The rate that you set for each project is shown in the rate column. It is important to note that hourly rates and fixed fee rates are both displayed in this column.
The ‘Manage Projects’ screen also has a ‘Show Closed Projects’ checkbox, similar to the one in the ‘Manage Clients’ screen. This checkbox will let you easily manage the number of projects that are actually displayed, making finding what you want that much easier.
BillingTracker Pro also lets you keep a simple reminder calendar to tell you when a project is due so you don’t miss any deadlines.
Many attorneys choose to use contingency fee billing. It is similar to fixed fee billing, except that you don’t know the final fee when you create the project. By choosing contingency fee billing you can track your hours and expenses as they occur and only at the end, when you create the invoice, do you enter the fee amount to be billed.
